All eyes where on the Whitegates this afternoon when St. Anthony’s came to town to take on our under 11 Green team in the U11 Development League 1A. And what a cracking game of football it turned out to be. Both teams gave it their all from the first to final whistle in a highly entertaining tussle. There was no down time for defences in the first half as both teams probed away at each other trying to break the deadlock. Sam Reade came to the rescue of Rovers on the stroke of half time when he manged to wrap his left foot around a goal bound effort destined for the back of the net to clear. Scoreless at half time with both teams hungry for more action in the second half. And it was St. Anthony’s who got the best start possible when they broke down the right hand side of the pitch with some great passing and squared a lovely pass into the box for their left winger to tap home. Rovers came back fighting and got their just reward when a Kevin Yan strike was brilliantly saved by the keeper but fell to the feet of the on rushing Hank Murnane to tap home the equaliser. Both teams could sense a winner but it came Rovers way when Alessio Coppola unleashed his right boot and fired a powerful right foot shot into the bottom corner of the net. All in all a great game of football, played in a good spirit between two very talented sides. Well done Rovers and St Anthonys.
