WICKLOW ROVERS AFC CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 31st JULY 2022

Well week 1 of our annual football camp came to end last Friday and it proved to be as popular and as successful as ever. There was a massive turnout with 122 girls and boys taking part. Everyone had a very enjoyable time displaying their skills but most importantly having fun. It was great to see the kids playing football with smiles on their faces while also learning the skills of football. At the end of the day, it’s the kid’s enjoyment of our sport that’s the most important thing. The skill level was high throughout the week and who knows maybe there were future Ronaldo’s, Mo Salah’s, Harry Kane’s, Seamus Coleman’s or Kylian Mbappe’s on show, one just never knows. A big thanks to head coach Johnny Dunne and his team of coaches Rachel Taglienti, Emer Kennedy, Alex Higgins, Zach Harris, Ben Patterson, Sean Murphy, Tomas Kennedy, Aleksander Richardson, Bob Hastie, Evan Conyard and Charlie Czwalina.  Massive thanks to Corrina Collins and Paul Delaney who ensured the signing in process went smoothly. A huge thanks to Rachel Taglienti who issued all the kids with their jerseys. To a man who has been with the club since it was founded, our club president Anthony Earls who is always on hand to help out with whatever has to be done, thanks Anthony. Thank you to the parents for supporting our summer camp, without you it wouldn’t be the massive success it is. Finally, but not least a gigantic thank you to one and all of the kids that were in attendance, your enthusiasm, spirit and behaviour was impeccable, a credit to yourselves and your parents, well done everyone.

With our first week of our annual summer camp proving a huge success our second week is also proving to be popular, places are filling up fast and at the rate its going we will be posting the sold out signs very soon. The advice is if you are thinking of registering your child do it asap to save disappointment. Week 2 runs from Monday 15th August to Friday 19th August. The camp will run from 10am to 2pm daily and the cost is €75 per child with discount for 2 or more children from the same family. Every participant will receive a jersey. All children should bring a packed lunch, drink, rain jacket, football boots and shin guards. To book your place use the following link: https://wicklowroversafc.com/products or alternatively you can contact any committee member.

The club will be staging our community fun day this coming Saturday 6th of August at Whitegates. This is a free day for club members, non-members and their families, everyone welcome. Our annual Mini World Cup will be the highlight of the event, the age grouping will see 7’s/8’s, 9’s/10’s, 11’s/12’s and 13’s/14’ paired together to play out their own individual competitions. All kids from the age of 7 to 14 are welcome to take part in the Mini World Cup, all names should be registered at this stage as teams have to be graded and selected prior to the event. Players should have been registered with any committee member or by pm through the club Facebook page by last Sunday 31st July. The Mini World cup is free to participate in. If you are interested in registering your child for the Mini World Cup, please make sure it’s done within the time frame. On the day there will be bouncy castles for the tiny tots and the bigger kids. Also, we will have connect 4 and soak the manager. The event starts at 10am and runs through till 4pm and is for the whole community, everyone is welcome to attend. On the day parking will be restricted at the grounds but we are hoping to get to use the County Council carpark. If there’s anyone interested in helping out on the day it would be very much appreciated by the club, if you would like to help in anyway, ref a game, help with a team, supervise around the ground, take a stint at supervising the bouncy castles, all help would be appreciated.

Our senior teams continue to train every Tuesday and Thursday nights in the Rocky Road kicking off at 7.30pm both nights. The club will be competing in the Leinster Senior League and the Wicklow League. Our training sessions are open to all youth and senior players, to present, past and new players, everybody is welcome to attend.
