WICKLOW ROVERS AFC CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 24th JULY 2022
The first of our open senior training sessions took place in the Rocky Road last Thursday evening. The club were encouraged by the large turnout especially with a number of present players missing through holidays and injuries. The club will be competing in the Leinster Senior League and the Wicklow League. Our open training sessions are open to all youth and senior players, to present, past and new players, everybody is welcome to attend. The club are pleased to announce we will be staging our community fun day on Saturday 6th of August at Whitegates. This is a free day for club members, non-members and their families, everyone welcome. Our annual Mini World Cup will be the highlight of the event, the age grouping will see 7’s/8’s, 9’s/10’s, 11’s/12’s and 13’s/14’ paired together to play out their own individual competitions. All kids from the age of 7 to 14 are welcome to take part in the Mini World Cup, all names must be registered in advance as teams will be graded and selected the week prior to the event. Players can be registered with any committee member or by pm through the club Facebook page by Sunday 31st July. The Mini World cup is free to participate in. If you are interested in registering your child for the Mini World Cup, please make sure it’s done within the time frame. On the day there will be bouncy castles for the tiny tots and the bigger kids. Also, we will have connect 4 and soak the manager. The event starts at 10am and runs through till 4pm and is for the whole community, everyone is welcome to attend. On the day parking will be restricted at the grounds but we are hoping to get to use the County Council carpark. If there’s anyone interested in helping out on the day it would be very much appreciated by the club, if you would like to help in anyway, ref a game, help with a team, supervise around the ground, take a stint at supervising the bouncy castles, all help would be appreciated.
Our annual summer camp bookings are coming in at a rapid pace with the result that week 1 was fully booked out well in advance. Week 2 runs from Monday 15th August to Friday 19th August. The second week is also booking up fast so to avoid disappointment we urge parents to book asap. The camp will run from 10am to 2pm daily and the cost is €75 per child with discount for 2 or more children from the same family. Every participant will receive a jersey. All children should bring a packed lunch, drink, rain jacket, football boots and shin guards. The start back date for all our junior members to resume playing matches for the second half of the season will be upon us before we know it. The WDSL activity on the playing field kicks off again on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday the 27th and 28th of August. We’re sure by then everyone will be chomping at the bit to get back playing.
