The 13A’s took on St Anthonys in Ballinalea Park in the semi-final of the Jako Premier cup but unfortunately and some what unluckily they suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat. In truth there was very little between the two sides in this game, only a kick of a ball. The first half saw both sides playing cagey football giving nothing away in the first twenty minutes. Then St Anthonys broke the deadlock to edge in front but the lead was short lived. A minute later Rovers were awarded a free kick thirty yards out, up stepped NJ Sinnott to hit a thunderous effort to the Anthonys net to level proceedings. The sides went in at the break all square at 1-1. It was more of the same in the second period with both teams cancelling each other out. With six minutes left on the clock Rovers had an excellent chance to hit the front in a one on one situation but the Anthonys keeper got down well to save. With time running out and extra time looking on the cards St Anthonys got what proved to be the winning goal. There was very little time for Rovers to get an equaliser but to their credit they gave it a good go. They won a corner and when crossed in the ball resembled a pin ball machine in the area but Rovers failed to get a decisive touch. Rovers gave it everything against a tough St Anthonys team and were unlucky in the game.
