Wicklow Rovers U11 Whites took to the Hockey Pitch today for their first competitive fixture of the season against a well-drilled Enniskerry side. While it was their first outing in a competitive environment this year, that fact wasn't visible from the way the team performed. It was a game defined by pure grit and determination, where scoring chances were at a premium as both sides battled for every inch of grass.
The defense stood firm throughout the match, led by the solid pairing of Casey Kearns and Connor Kirwan. Very little made it past them as they anchored the team under pressure. Casey proved to be a real leader on the pitch, expertly organizing the team from the back and taking charge whenever required up front.
In attack, Oluwadarasimi Afolabi was a constant live wire. His strong, purposeful running and skillful dribbling caused problems all morning, and he capped an excellent individual performance with a very well-deserved goal. He was supported brilliantly up front by the entire attacking unit. Special shoutout to trio of Tsepo Ncube, Alex McNabb, and Ali-rida Allaw, who all put in tireless shifts to keep the Enniskerry backline under pressure.
Special thanks must go to the young U10 trio of Max Masica, Ilias Karamalis, and Nachiket Alathukattil, who stepped up to add vital depth to the squad. All three starred in their roles and were brilliant during their time on the pitch. Max capped his stellar performance leading the line by finding the back of the net for the Whites' second goal.
The game ended in a 2-2 draw after Enniskerry managed to find an equalizer in the final minutes of the match. While it was a tough way to finish, the Whites can be immensely proud of a performance that showed they are more than ready for the competitive season ahead. Thanks to Enniskerry for a great game of football, and we look forward to the return leg later in the season.
