Match Report: Wicklow Rovers 4–1 St Anthonys
Wicklow Rovers earned a 4–1 win over St Anthonys after a hard-fought contest. The first half was tight, with both sides defending well, but the deadlock was eventually broken when Charlie Seery Freir finished off a fine move involving Noah Doyle and Fionn Convery.
Rovers stayed solid at the back and went into the break with the game still finely poised. St Anthonys drew level early in the second half after capitalising on a lapse in concentration at the back, but Rovers responded in style. When Caeric Doyle was brought down on the edge of the box, Ianis Cirnaru stepped up and curled a clever free-kick into the bottom-right corner to restore the lead.
Rovers kept the pressure on, with Brandon Goucher striking the post after a great run and Albert Toma rattling the crossbar with a superb volley. The third goal came after another excellent run by Caeric Doyle, who laid the ball off to Charlie Seery Freir, and he in turn set up Ianis Cirnaru to finish smartly for his second of the day. Lucas Lally rounded off the scoring in style, volleying home straight from a corner and into the roof of the net.
A fantastic team display and a well-earned result for the Rovers. There were several strong individual performances on the day including in defence Thomas Thornbury and Lucas Lally. Ianis Cinaru and Caeric Doyle on the wings.
Thanks to all our supporters, and to St Anthonys for hosting a great match
