Our U15B team traveled to face Avonmore on Sunday, treating the spectators to a highly entertaining, five-goal thriller. It was an extra special day for the squad as they proudly pulled on their brand-new match kit for the very first time, and they marked the occasion with a fantastic, hard-fought victory.
Rovers started the match in dominant fashion, completely controlling the opening 15 minutes and carving out five excellent scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, the lads couldn't find the clinical edge to convert their dominance into goals, and they were hit with a classic counter attack when Avonmore took the lead against the run of play. The hosts piled on the pressure for the subsequent 10 minutes, threatening to double their lead, but Rovers showed great resilience to weather the storm. Our boys got themselves firmly back into the game before the referee's whistle, executing a lovely, neat combination between Moises Johnston and Aaron Lynn, which allowed Aaron to slot the ball home beautifully to level the sides.
Rovers carried that momentum straight into the second half, starting on the front foot and quickly seizing total control of the tie. Keefe Lang put the visitors ahead with a wonderfully cool, composed finish to make it 2-1. With confidence surging through the team, the third goal arrived in spectacular fashion when Lucas Araminas curled a corner kick directly into the back of the net.
Cruising at 3-1, Rovers looked completely comfortable until a defensive slip-up with just four minutes remaining allowed Avonmore right back into the contest to make it 3-2. It set up a frantic grandstand finish, and Avonmore came agonisingly close to snatching a late draw, but the Rovers lads dug deep and showed immense character to hang on for the maximum points.
Lucas Araminas was awarded the Man of the Match honors for his stellar display and spectacular goal, but it was a brilliant squad effort with particularly strong performances on the day from Cayden O'Malley, Moises Johnston, and Aaron Lynn.
The club would like to extend a massive thank you to our fantastic sponsors, Squirrel's Scramble , who generously supplied the brilliant new kits worn by the lads today. It is great to have your support as this team continues its excellent progression.
