Our U14B team showed incredible grit and character last Saturday, staging a tremendous late comeback from 2-0 down with just 15 minutes left on the clock to rescue a well-earned 2-2 draw against St Anthony’s at Finn Park, Kilcoole.
Rovers started a little slower than their usual high standards but were still deeply unlucky to find themselves trailing 1-0 at the break. Despite the slow start, the lads kept pushing forward, with Greg O’Rourke and Charlie Shine working tirelessly to carve out chance after chance during a very competitive opening 35 minutes.
Ten minutes into the second half, St. Anthony's struck again against the run of play to double their lead. Facing a 2-0 deficit, the Rovers players showed exactly what they are made of. Instead of letting their heads drop, they raised their game to another level and took total control of the match.
The fightback sparked to life when Luca Shields turned provider, delivering a superb assist for the team's top scorer, Charlie Shine, who finished beautifully to pull one back.
With just two minutes left on the clock, the drama reached its peak. Luca Shields broke brilliantly down the right wing once again, beating his man and sending an excellent ball across the face of goal for Odhran Convey, who timed his run perfectly to finish dramatically at the back post.
While the entire squad played exceptionally well to earn the point, Johnny Billington and Robert Thompson stood out with immense performances at centre-back. In the center of the park, Alfie McGauley, Eoin Kirwan, and Zach Hillman put in a massive shift, anchoring the midfield brilliantly from start to finish.
It was a fantastic display of heart and team spirit that everyone involved can be incredibly proud of.
