Our Leinster Senior team went in search of three points tonight when they welcomed Dundrum FC to Whitegates. The lads went into the game in hot form and hoping to maintain their title push. Even though missing some key players Rovers made the early running putting the visitors on the back foot but disaster struck in the tenth minute. The away side with their first attack of note ended with them going one nil up. To be honest it was a stop start affair with a lot of niggly fouls on both sides. Rovers still were on the front foot but the away side looked dangerous on the break. Twenty minutes in Rovers were awarded a penalty and a chance of a leveller but were denied by the keeper. Rovers had a couple of half chances around the twenty five minute mark but were off target. On the half hour mark Dundrum had a great chance to double their lead but some how from two yards out the ball was scooped over the bar. Four minutes before the break Rovers got a deserved equaliser. Davy O'Sullivan cut in from the left before firing home to send the teams in at the break all square. Two minutes into the second period Rovers were awarded their second penalty of the match. This time round it was Davy O'Sullivan who stepped up to take the spot kick and he made no mistake blasting home to the keepers left to give Rovers the lead. The twin strike force of Davy O'Sullivan and Ciaran McGettigan were getting through trojan work upfront. They were a handful for the Dundrum defence causing numerous problems. After an hour Ciaran was unlucky with an effort with the keeper blocking. Rovers needed that third goal to put the game to bed because Dundrum always looked dangerous going forward. With five minutes left on the clock Rovers won a corner, Nathan Sullivan's corner was on the money as Davy climbed highest to send a powerful header goalbound. The keeper got to the ball but couldn’t keep it out as Davy wheeled away to celebrate his hat-trick and the goal that guaranteed Rovers three valuable points. It nearly got better for Davy with three minutes remaining as he raced clear of the defence only to see his effort tipped onto the post by the away keeper. On the final whistle Rovers will be delighted with this three points which sees them close the gap on leaders Kilbarrack United to seven points with Rovers having three games in hand. Missing a handful of key players Rovers put in a workmanlike performance in what was a stop start sort of game. Regards the man of the match you couldn’t look past the experienced striker Davy O'Sullivan, a superbly taken hat-trick, a constant thorn in the Dundrum defence with his running across the front line harrowing the defenders into mistakes and combining well with strike partner Ciaran McGettigan saw Davy put in an excellent all round display.
