Our Leinster Senior team travelled to Crumlin today to take on Dublin Hospitals FC in what promised to be a difficult encounter for the lads. Rovers went into the game full of confidence and on a good run. They had the extra incentive of knowing three points would see them jump into second place in the league standings. The game was played on an astro pitch and it took the lads time to get used to the pace of the surface. There was nothing between the two sides in the first half hour with both cancelling each other out. With ten minutes left in the first period a long punt from the home keeper was flicked on by the centre forward for their midfielder to run onto and lob over the Rovers keeper to put the home side one up. The Rovers management made a couple of changes at half time when they introduced Adam Cox and Davy O'Sullivan to proceedings and it had a positive effect on the game. The second half saw Rovers start really well with them creating numerous chances but unfortunately they couldn’t make a break through. With twenty minutes remaining Rovers were awarded a free outside the box, Adam Cox put a perfect delivery in for Davy O'Sullivan to get on the end and tuck away the equaliser. Two minutes later things got better, Tom Smullen slipped Ciaran McGettigan through on goal and Maccer made no mistake and Rovers were now in front. With eighty minutes gone on the clock Rovers secured all three points with the third and insurance goal. A lovely ball from Adam Cox put maccer down the right wing, he cut the ball back for the incoming Davy O'Sullivan to finish to make it 3-1. With seconds left on the clock the home side pulled one back but it was too little to late with Rovers seeing out the remaining few seconds to claim three precious points. Tom Smullen was awarded the man of the match accolade with Adam Cox & Davy O'Sullivan putting in excellent shifts in changing the course of the game. Another positive point from the game was the performance of young Ben Algera who done really well at right back in a good team performance. This result sees the lads very much in the title mix as they move into second spot behind league leaders Kilbarrack United.
