Last night our under 15’s took on Ashford Rovers in the semi-final of the shield under the lights at Whitegates. When these two teams meet its always an exciting game and last night was no different. The two sides have come to know each other well and it showed in a first half that was tight with both teams cancelling each other out to go in at the break scoreless. The second half saw the sides create more in the way of clear cut chances. The lads hit the front when they were awarded a penalty, the Ashford keeper pulled off a great save from Jack Neville's spot kick but Jack reacted the quickest to the rebound to fire home. This signalled pressure from Ashford as they searched for an equaliser, with time running out they struck the woodwork but Wicklow cleared the danger. The lads defended stubbornly to see out the game to book their spot in the final. On the night Jack Byrne, Alfie Doyle and Finn Dunne impressed in an excellent team performance. The lads will be delighted with their victory against the league champions, as usual it proved to be an exciting encounter against an excellent Ashford Rovers side. Well done lads, best of luck in the final. We wish Ashford Rovers the very best of luck in their SFAI South Leinster Region semi-final.
