Arklow Town had an early start up the N11 to Whitegates to take on our under 11 Green team this morning. These two teams had a great encounter earlier in the season and they both took off from where they finished their last battle in September. The game was end to end with Arklow having the better of the chances only to be foiled by Rovers keeper Ben Morrissey on more than one occasion. Arklow were given an opportunity to break the deadlock just before the break when their forward was fouled in the box with a penalty kick duly awarded. But Morrissey stood tall and made a fantastic save down to his right hand side to keep the game all square at half time. Rovers had the best possible start to the second half when their first attack resulted in a corner that was whipped in beautifully by Hank Murnane. The Arklow keeper could only palm it away and it fell right in front of Freddie Kavanagh to slot home. One nil to Rovers but Arklow heads didn't drop and they really tested the Rovers regard but Ronan Byrne, Jack Collins & Dylan Butler kept it very tight at the back. Byrne started the next lovely team goal when he fed Isla Hindle down the right wing, who delivered a great ball for Alessio Coppola to put Rovers two up. Coppola burst through on goal again in the dying minutes and added another with a well taken effort from just outside the box to make 3-0 just before the final whistle. Thanks to Arklow Town for another great game of football and the very best of luck for the remainder of the season.
