Our under 11 Green team exited the Jimmy Hackett cup to a determined Arklow United side this afternoon. Arklow got off to the best start possible when their striker latched onto an under cooked pass to burst through on goal and put the visitors 1-0 up. It was 2-0 minutes later when an Arklow midfielder burst down the left hand side to coolly slot the ball past the on rushing Ben Morrissey in the Rovers net. Rovers struck back when Kevin Yan was the first to react to a failed clearance from a corner to cut the deficit in half. Arklow regained their two goal lead on the stroke of half time when they slotted home again at the near post on the left hand side. 3-1 at half time and Rovers came out battling. Five minutes in it was back to 3-2 when Alessio Coppola fed a lovely pass to Daniel Clarke to fire home from 8 yards out. Rovers were piling on the pressure now but Arklow went 4-2 up when a corner deflected off a Rovers player into the back of his own net. Rovers never gave up and Alessio Coppola made it a tense final few minutes for the visitors when he made it 4-3 with a lovely right foot strike. But 4-3 it finished in a great battle between two talanted sides. The very best of luck to Arklow in their semi final.
