On a fine sunny day in Kilcoole, Wicklow Rovers and St Anthonys played out an entertaining encounter marked by a high tempo throughout.
The first half was a tight affair with Rovers taking the lead, great build up play from Fionn Convery and a jinking run from Caeric Doyle set up Daniel Clarke who made no mistake and buried the ball into the back of the net.
The goal sparked a resurgence from St Anthonys who piled on the pressure and eventually scored an equaliser. Through that spell of pressure there was a fantastic one hand save from Loukas Karamalis which kept the game level.
Rovers then came back to life, working a great goal from talisman Charlie Seery-Freir who linked up well with Albert Toma before finishing low into the corner. This was the start of the haul.
Half time came and went and before you knew it the team had scored another three goals from Charlie. The first goal was scored through great determination from the striker and a dash of good fortune, when he went straight through St Anthony's defence and beat the oncoming keeper, assisted by Danny Vickers.
The next goal was assisted by defender Thomas Thornbury, setting Charlie off on his way at halfway line, who rounded the St Anthonys defence before cooly finishing into the bottom corner. The fifth goal was a great team goal, the ball being passed throughout the team, eventually centre back Leon Lawless spotted Charlie who had lost his marker. The ball was crossed in and a screaming volley was scored to back of the net.
Rovers didn't stop there, a sixth was scored by Ianis Cinaru who collected a superb pass from Albert Toma and finished brilliantly.
The final goal was scored in the last minute by Daniel Clarke who got on the end of a great defence splitting pass by Ianis Cinaru and finished into bottom left corner.
Rovers were a well oiled machine today but know that there are greater challenges ahead. The whole team played their part in this victory. Big thanks for U15s members Daniel Clarke and Loukas Karamilas, who performed very well for the team.
Special individual performances on the day were Thomas Thornbury, Leon Lawles
