Our U13 boys in green took part in a great tussle of a semi final against Enniskerry U14's under the lights at Whitegates this evening.
The visitors demonstrated why they are the recently crowned U14 Division 1 champions and started very strongly. Our boys took a little while to get their football going but get it going they did when they took the lead in the 18th minute. Will Carey drove forward and excellently found Mikie O'Neill 10 yards from goal. Despite the keepers best efforts, O'Neill's shot was too powerful and ended up in the back of the net.
Enniskerry pushed for an equalizer before the break but were finding it hard to break down the central defense pairing of Jack Collins and James Carroll who were being well marshalled by keeper Ben Morrissey.
Rovers had the perfect start to the second half when AJ Long put O'Neill through on goal only for him to be taken down for a penalty kick. Long duly stepped up and doubled the Rovers lead.
Both teams kept attacking hard but neither could find the net for the remainder of the match resulting in a 2-0 win for the hosts.
So a final awaits in the coming weeks which is just reward for all of our boys efforts throughout the season. Up next though is a very tough away day in Round 4 of the National Cup when the boys travel to take on St. Joseph's FC from Athlone.
A huge thanks to Enniskerry for a cracking contest and congratulations on your Division 1 success.
