Our Senior Ladies team faced a tough challenge in their season opener today, falling 4-1 to All Blacks despite a valiant effort with limited numbers.

Missing several key players due to county finals, the Rovers started the match with just 11 players. All Blacks struck first, but Aisling McDonald quickly responded with a goal to level the score at 1-1. However, All Blacks managed to net three more goals before halftime, leaving the Rovers with a significant deficit to overcome.

To add to the challenge, Cara Walsh suffered a head injury and had to leave the pitch five minutes before the break. Despite playing the entire second half with only 10 players, the Rovers showed incredible heart and determination, limiting All Blacks to just the four first-half goals.  Aoife Caffrey and Lily Sweeney both had chances to reduce the deficit, but unfortunately, their efforts couldn't find the back of the net.

Katie Verbruggen put in a tireless performance, starting up front before dropping back to right wing and then right back, showcasing her versatility and commitment. She was deservedly named Rovers' player of the match. However, every player, from the back line to the forwards, deserves immense credit for their unwavering effort and never-give-up attitude.

Despite the loss, the team showed tremendous spirit and resilience in the face of adversity. We're incredibly proud of their performance and look forward to seeing them bounce back stronger in the next match.

A big thank you to All Blacks for their hospitality and for supplying the team with some nice treats after the game.
