The under 13C team looked to bounce back from a disappointing result last week when they took on St Anthonys B at Whitegates this morning. Rovers started the brightest and pinned St Anthonys into their own half for most of the opening 10 minutes. That pressure paid off when the St Anthonys keeper parried a shot, and Aaron Lynn got to the ball first and prodded it home. Rovers continued to press and almost scored through a Nathan Byrne effort. The Rovers defenders did their jobs and snuffed out any danger that St Anthonys brought. Then three minutes before the interval Rovers got their second goal when Jamie Noctor blasted past the blameless keeper, following some determined play from the midfield. Straight from the kick off Rovers hunted the ball down and got their third when Callum O'Flaherty's determination saw him finish past the onrushing St Anthonys keeper, 3-0 at half time. But St Anthonys weren't giving up without a fight, and they put Rovers under pressure right from the restart. They scored two fine goals and could have levelled, but for some fine defending. Goalkeeper Loukas Karamalis played his part in keeping St Anthonys out, between clearances outside his box and a number of vital saves. Rovers looked tired at this stage but dug deep and scored a fourth goal through Kai Jameson when he buried a shot into the corner of the net. Rovers didn't sit back and went in search of a fifth goal but were caught again on the break and St Anthony's scored a deserved third goal. There was a nervous three minutes at the end but Rovers held out for the win. Man of the match was Jamie McGowan. There were strong performances from Will McConnell, captain Luke Mulhall, and Cayden O'Malley on his return from injury. Thanks to St Anthonys for a great game.
