The senior A team welcomed league leaders and title favourites St Anthonys to Whitegates tonight in what would give the lads a good test and see how far the lads have come since the start of the season. The lads were up for it from the start as they took the game to St Anthonys. Their early dominance told after just seven minutes when Daniel Tarcevskis hit a sweet effort just inside the area to give the keeper no chance to put Rovers one up. The league leaders first chance came after fifteen minutes when they struck the woodwork. The next attack saw Rovers cause havoc in the away team's area with the keeper parrying and a clearance off the line preventing Rovers doubling their lead. The attacking three of Lorcan Sinnott, Oussama Kemouche and Daniel Tarcevskis were causing problems all night long for the St Anthonys rearguard. The sides went in at the break with Rovers deservingly leading 1-0. St Anthonys came out in the second period with more of an attacking threat but Rovers held firm. On fifty three minutes the Rovers rearguard were breached but James Kavanagh in the Rovers goal pulled off an excellent save. It proved to be crucial as three minutes later Rovers doubled their lead when Oussama Kemouche fired home to put Rovers 2-0 up. They say 2-0 is a dangerous lead and Anthonys reduced the deficit on the hour mark to prove that point. Anthonys went in search of an equaliser and on sixty three minutes Kavanagh got down well to make another great save turning the ball around the post with the resulting corner been cleared. At this stage Anthonys were having their best spell of the game, a fifteen minute period but the Rovers defence stood firm. On seventy-two minutes Rovers scored a deserved third goal when Lorcan Sinnott rose highest in the area to head home to restore Rovers two goal cushion. In the seventy fifth minute Kavanagh made a brave save at the feet of the Anthonys striker. Five minutes into injury time Davy O'Sullivan fired home the fourth to give Rovers a very impressive 4-1 victory. There were excellent perfomances all over the pitch with Rovers great value for their win. The Rovers rearguard were solid throughout with Ben Algera putting some great tackles. The midfield led by Bryan Doyle were excellent from start to finish. The attacking three of Lorcan Sinnott, Oussama Kemouche and Daniel Tarcevskis caused problems all night. Man of the match goes to Rovers keeper James Kavanagh, and this is not because Rovers were under the cosh, far from it as they dictated play for long periods. James made crucial saves at important times in the game. At 1-0, 2-1 and 3-1 James made excellent saves to prove how important he is to the team, not only the excellent saves he made but he was assured in mopping up the long balls over the top instilling confidence in his back four. Well done lads, great win.
