A minutes silence was observed before kick off in memory and a mark of respect for Martin Carr. This proved to be a tight battle between two evenly matched teams and has been all season, but Rovers had the better of the early exchanges in this game. Persistence paid off for Nathan Byrne who after having two shots blocked in quick succession, hit a powerful shot towards the Arklow goal that just evaded the keeper. A much deserved lead. The Arklow side had some chances of their own but they were kept out by some brilliant goalkeeping from Loukas Karamalis. Rovers spurned several chances to double the lead in the first half and it remained 1-0 at half time. Arklow came out for the second half with determination but were kept at bay by a determined Rovers defence. Rovers then doubled their lead from a delightful strike from Kai Jameson. Rovers continued on the attack, Casey Brennan broke from halfway and surged into the box before being brought down. The penalty that followed was brilliantly struck but hit the underside of the bar and was cleared out. Arklow kept going to the end and created a number of opportunities but the Rovers defence held out. A great team performance by all involved. Thanks to Arklow for another great game.
