The under 13A's were at home to local neighbours Rathnew AFC at Whitegates tonight in group 1 of the Premier shield. Going into the game Rovers were two points clear at the top with their neighbours sitting in second breathing down their necks so they knew there could be no slip ups. It proved to be an exciting encounter with Rovers coming out on top winning 3-2 against a determined Rathnew side. The last time the sides met it was the Villagers who came out on top after a penalty shootout in the cup semi-final. This time round Rovers managed to narrowly win out, a win that sees them extend their lead at the top to five points. David McCormack, Jack Madden and Sam Conyard nabbed the Rovers goals in a good team performance. Alessio Coppola from the 12A’s was drafted up tonight and was exceptional on his introduction. Rathnew came close to equalising in the last minute but were denied by a superb save from Rovers keeper Sam Czwalina. Well done lads, a hard earned three points against a good Rathnew side. Big thanks to Rathnew AFC for another great tussle.
