Congratulations to our under 14A's after defeating Newtown Juniors 3-2 after extra time in a tense Premier cup final this evening. It was a tough match against a good Newtown team. After a nervous start from both sides Newtown took the lead after 20 minutes with a header from a corner. After the goal and a couple of tactical changes Rovers started to create chances and equalised before the end of the half with Wolsey Sloan Kelly fast to convert a good attack from Rhys Behan. Second half Rovers kept pushing with no luck on few occasions and Newtown got their second taking advantage of a little misunderstanding in the Rovers backline. Rovers put their heads down and didn't give up, creating a few more chances and hitting the crossbar and in the dying moments of the match they got the equaliser with a superb half volley from our centre back Sam goodbody from just inside the opposition box. Rovers actually had two more chances to win it before extra time but the Newtown keeper was in excellent form today. So on to extra time it was with both teams still attacking but no big chances until in the early minutes of the second half of extra time when Cillian Czwalina scored a screamer from right outside the box finding the top corner. Rovers defended well till the end to bring the cup home. Congratulations to all the Rovers squad and coaches, well done on your success. Hard luck to Newtown and big thanks to you all for a very competitive tense game. A great advert for football.
