Our under 12A's put in a fine display against Arklow United in the Shield competition this evening, running out 5-1 winners. Rovers had a great start when Mickey O'Neill set up Alessio Coppola in the fifth minute to opening the scoring. Freddie Kavanagh doubled the lead when his cross come shot sailed over the keepers head and into the back of the net. Simon Lynch made it 3-0 when he was on the end of a Kevin Yan free kick. Rovers finished off the first half by adding a fourth when Nadal Kingne fed Coppola, who excellently dribbled through the Arklow defence and slotted home. Arklow heads didn't drop and they were rewarded midway through the second half when they broke through the Rovers rearguard to make it 4-1 and cast doubt into Rovers heads. But Yan restored Rovers four goal cushion minutes later when he pounced on a loose ball and made it 5-1. Thanks to Arklow Utd for the game and we look forward to another tough battle in the return fixture.
