The 12B's welcomed Rathnew to the Rocky Road this morning for their division 1 encounter.
And it was Rovers who were first out of the traps with Cian Foley sliding a lovely through ball into the path of Dan Morrissey who calmly slid the ball past the keeper.
A few minutes later it was two when a great corner deliverey by Eoghan Daye found Cian Foley free at the back post and he volleyed home.
But then Rathnew started to get into the game and look lively and eventually made the breakthrough when their striker ran clear and finished well.
2-1 to Rovers at half time.
Rathnew continued to pressure Rovers in the second half and eventually equalised after a corner wasn’t cleared properly and the Rathnew midfielder slammed the ball home from eight yards. Rovers continued to struggle and after another good corner delivery from the villagers a wicked deflection took the ball past the Rovers keeper to give Rathnew the lead.
Rathnew secured the three points and a well deserved win close to full time when their full back got forward and found the bottom corner with his shot.
A disappointing display from Rovers who will need to pick themselves up and have another go next week. Well done to Rathnew.
