Our U12A's travelled down to Allen Park this morning to take on Aughrim Rangers in a highly anticipated clash between two good teams. Rovers started the better but couldn't break down the Aughrim rear guard to create any clear cut chances and it was Aughrim who opened the scoring just after twenty minutes when they broke quickly on a counter attack to punish Rovers. A second Aughrim goal followed minutes later when Rovers failed to clear their lines and Aughrim pounced on a loose ball to go two up. Aughrim then left Rovers with a mountain to climb when they struck an unstoppable free kick into the top corner to go 3-0 up at half time. Aughrim started the second half sharper and were soon 4-0 up when their midfielder played a lovely through ball for their stricker to tuck home. To their credit, the Rovers heads didn't drop and they were rewarded when Mikey O'Neill slotted a lovely cross into the Aughrim net to make it 4-1. Rovers kept going to the end but just couldn't get the better of the Aughrim defence. A tough first day at the office and one that the team can only learn from.
