Our Leinster Senior team entertained Fairview CY under the lights at Whitegates tonight. The lads went into this game on the back of a very impressive win against high flying Leicester Celtic last week. The lads were on the front foot from the off putting the away side under pressure. The first twenty minutes was all Rovers but they were finding it hard to carve out a clear cut chance. On twenty five minutes the away team went close with their first attack of note, a certain goal looked on the cards but Jamie Snell done well to block. Two minutes later Rovers went ahead when Sam Brown coolly finished to give Rovers a deserved lead. A minute later it was 2-0, a Ciaran McGettigan ball found Tommy Smullen and he made no mistake to put Rovers in the driving seat. Fairview started to edge their way into the game and with five minutes to go in the first half they went close but the effort cleared the bar. A minute before the interval the away side pulled one back to half the deficit going into the break. If the first half was all Rovers the second half was the complete opposite as Fairview dictated for long periods but the Rovers rearguard held firm, a mixture of good saves and goal line clearances kept the Rovers lead intact. In the seventy fifth minute Rovers went close, an Ian Brannigan corner was met by the head of Ciaran McGettigan but he was just off target. The away side were looking dangerous going forward but Rovers sealed the three points deep into injury time, Dylan Orr cut in from the right and his cross come shot sailed into the top left hand corner to make it 3-1. There was ninty six minutes gone on the clock when Ciaran McGettigan provided us with a lovely piece of individual skill, thirty five yards out Ciaran took the ball down with his back to goal, turned his marker and left him in his wake, he then rounded the keeper but was then unlucky to see his effort blocked by a covering defender. The final whistle sounded soon after and the lads will be delighted with the three points as they were hard earned. The lads never reached the high standards they have set themselves of late but that is the sign of a good side when they win despite not playing well. Three points were the main thing which sees them right in the title mix.
