Our under 16's claimed third place in the Wicklow Advertiser shield when they defeated Carnew today winning 4-2. Rovers started well and the first move of match saw Mikey Merrigan racing down the left wing before crossing into Robert Cherry who bundled home from close range to give Rovers the lead. Carnew levelled shortly after but Rovers regrouped and from a brilliantly flighted free kick to the far post Ben Patterson fired home to put Rovers 2-1 up.

Mikey Merrigan and Robert Cherry were combining well upfront and Rovers scored to make it 3-1 from a through ball from Merrigan to Cherry who made no mistake. Halftime 3-1. Carnew brought their game to us and had us under real pressure from the start of the second half.

Rovers played their football and created chances of their own. Rovers went 4-1 ahead midway through the half from another fine pass from Mikey Merrigan to put Robert Cherry through again and he finished with a volley to the roof of net.

Carnew had some more chances, they scored their final goal in the closing minutes to make it 4-2 but Rovers saw the game out without conceding further.

Great win for Rovers & 3rd place in the shield, well done to everyone involved.
