Our Under 14 team played their shield final from last year today in Arklow against Avonmore in glorious conditions. Rovers got off to a perfect start when after two minutes good play from Cian Byrne in midfield put Lorcan Sinnott through who in turn found Charlie Czwalina with a clever through ball and the captain made no mistake from eight yards with a neat finish to the bottom left corner. Five minutes later Rovers were two to the good when Czwalina and Sinnott combined again with the latter drilling a left foot shot beyond the keeper who stood no chance. In fairness to Avonmore they fought their way back into the game slowly and were rewarded with their dominance with a fine finish from their left winger who chipped Eoghan Doyle in the Rovers goal. Half time came with the score at 2-1. Both team made some changes at the break. The next goal was going to be crucial and striker Czwalina was the man to get it, he struck when a dropped ball by the Avonmore keeper fell into his path and he couldn’t miss. The game was wrapped up in style when superb work from Harri Armstrong saw him through on goal and he finished neatly over the keeper. A superb game with both teams giving it their all. Congratulations to the under 14's and their backroom staff on a great result, well done everyone.
