WICKLOW ROVERS AFC CLUB NOTES WEEK ENDING 20th JUNE 2021
Our 12A's took on St Patricks of Avoca in the 2020 A Shield semi-final in Shamrock Park, Rathnew. The lads went 2-0 down before showing great character to battle back to level matters with two goals in the last ten minutes to send the game into extra time. Daniel Coffey and Jack Healy nabbed the all important goals for Rovers in what was an excellent fight back from the boys in green. Extra time failed to separate the sides so it meant we were heading into a dreaded penalty shootout. Rovers came out on top of the shootout winning 2-0 with Ronan Phelan and Josh McCall successful with their spot kicks. Hard luck to a very good St Patricks side, a terrible way to lose a game. Well done to the Rovers team and the best of luck in next week’s final. The under 16's went down 5-0 to a very strong Rathnew side in the semi-final of the Wicklow Advertiser shield in Ballinalea Park. The Rovers side gave it their all, but the villagers were much the sharper on the day. The positive out of today is it’s nice to see football resuming. The club would like to wish our under 12A’s, 13A’s and 14A’s from last season the very best of luck in their shield finals this coming weekend, good luck to all involved.
Our 50/50 draw runs on a continuous basis, the draw has a guaranteed monthly winner who will also have the opportunity to top up their winnings by predicting the bonus ball in the main National Lottery draw the following night after been drawn out. The tickets cost €5 each and you can buy as many tickets as you like. The next draw will take place on Tuesday July 6th at 8pm and will be streamed live on our club Facebook page. To enter this draw all tickets must be purchased before midnight on Wednesday June 30th, any tickets purchased after this will be entered in the following month’s draw. Tickets can be purchased online at www.wicklowroversclubshop.com or alternatively you can get your tickets form any committee member or club member. June’s monthly winner was Connor Lewins who scooped €760 but unfortunately he failed to add the bonus ball jackpot of €1,200 when his bonus number 17 didn’t come out in the National Lottery main draw. Thank you to everyone for your continuous support, it is very much appreciated by everyone at the club.
