Wicklow Rovers MGL U18 girls pictured below (kindly sponsored by Phone Pulse) travelled north today to play Enniskerry. With the rest of the teams in the MGL unable to play due to Level 3 covid restrictions in Dublin this was the third time the teams had met this month. Following on from a 3-3 friendly draw and last weeks narrow 4-3 defeat, the girls set out to even the scales by getting an away win. It was another tight game and both defensive units performed brilliantly. Both goalkeepers made some fantastic saves, both at both long range and close range. The pitch at bog meadows is a sun trap and the girls were happy to go in 0-0 at the half time whistle and take the opportunity to rehydrate. Rovers came out strong in the second half but again were met with a strong Enniskerry defence. Chances from Aoife Caffery and Rachel Byrne were well defended while at the other end Ava Rawson and Eve Kelly were fully focused and disrupted the Enniskerry attacks. After a second half water break Wicklow pushed forward again and were rewarded with a goal from a great strike by Molly Sweeney. The Enniskerry girls pushed hard for an equaliser for the last ten minutes but the Wicklow girls kept their heads and stuck to their game plan and came away as deserving 1-0 winners.
