Third Division Avonmore B hosted our Premier team (kindly sponsored by Phone Pulse) in the last 16 of the Wicklow Cup tonight. It was a beautiful evening for football and both teams provided some tidy football in what was a good sporting encounter. This was always going to be a tough fixture for the home side but to their credit they battled well throughout. It was Rovers who opened the scoring though with Luca Rampersaud slotting home in the 8th minute. This was the early goal this young Rovers side would have been seeking to settle any nerves in what could have been a potential giant killing exploit from the home side. Rampersaud was dangerous all night and the Avonmore defence couldn't prevent the Wicklow man from scoring a well taken hat-trick. Matthew Traynor headed home from an excellent Alan Power cross which sealed a comfortable 4-0 win for Wicklow Rovers which sees them sail through to the quarter finals. This was a good all round team performance as the lads went about their job in a clinical manner. This win sets them up with an away quarter final tussle with Newtown United.
