It was a repeat of last weeks league fixture when the U14s B travelled to Arklow United in the quarter finals of the cup. Playing with a strong breeze Wicklow started with intent and went 1 up in the 10th minute thanks to an Odhran Convery finish after some neat passing in midfield. The second came 5 minutes later when Luca Shields playing wide right latched onto an excellent pass from Greg Rourke.
After going past two defenders Luca unleashed an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area. The first half finished with a third courtesy of an excellent Odhran Convery finish following in on a fine save from the Arklow United keeper from Edward Allen’s initial shot.
Playing into the breeze in the second half the Wicklow Rover back line of Tiernan Breen, Johnny Billington, Robert Thompson and Larry Donnelly had to absorb a huge amount of pressure owing to Arklow United’s direct play. Their resilience paid off as Rovers managed to take the game to the home team and Charlie Shines movement allowed him to beat the offside trap and get in for a well deserved brace. Which left the final score 5-0.
Congratulations to the whole team who put in a serious effort to get this result and commiserations to Arklow United who played to the very end but did not have the luxury of being able to go to the subs bench.
