On a very blustery day in Enniskerry, Wicklow Rovers produced a composed and energetic performance to secure a 7–2 victory over a determined Enniskerry side in the U16 league clash. The match showcased high‑tempo football, clever movement, and some excellent individual displays.

The opening stages of the first half were evenly contested, with both sides pressing aggressively and looking to play through midfield. Rovers settled quickest and took the lead on 10 minutes when debutante Charlie Seery Freir was put through on goal by Fionn Convery and finished in the bottom corner, the first goal of his hattrick.

Enniskerry responded well, forcing several defensive interventions and were rewarded with a penalty from a handball, scoring and levelling the game. Rovers again took the lead when Charlie Seery-Freir put Albert Toma through on goal, who made no mistake and blasted it past the Enniskerry goalkeeper.

Charlie got his second goal, when Leon Lawless sent a long ball over the top, the Enniskerry keeper was beaten in the race to the ball, Charlie rounded the keeper and scored in the empty net. The fourth goal came from lots of Rovers pressure, resulting in the ball being squared by Charlie back to the oncoming Fionn Convery who finished well.

The Second half started much the same as the first had finished with Rovers on top. After some great build up play, a superb through ball by Daniel Clarke released Charlie again who’s shot was saved brilliantly but the rebound fell to Fionn Convery who made no mistake and blasted to the back of the net.

Enniskerry fought back and scored from a very contentious penalty, but this was to prove the final blip in a very successful outing for the Rovers side. The team went on and scored two more, the first through a fortunate own goal, straight from a corner. The second, a great ball by Danny Vickers to set up Charlie for a rip roaring well deserved hat trick.

Rovers win was built on sharp finishing, disciplined defending, and strong teamwork. The whole team played their part. Special mention for U15s members Daniel Clarke and Cian Foley, who slotted in very well for the team.

Thanks to Enniskerry for a very sporting match, we wish them the best for the rest of the league campaign.
