Our Premier side travelled the short distance to Arklow yesterday to take on Arklow United in the Premier Division and came away with a hard fought 1 - 0 win.

Rovers stayed very brightly and had the first opportunity when Nathan Sullivan slipped Evan Conyard through only for the Arklow United keep to make a good save. Chris Muies then struck the post with a free kick from outside the box and from a corner Tomas Kennedy struck the crossbar.

Rovers were a constant threat with Robbie Mearns and Nathan Sullivan causing the Arklow back line hardship every time they went on the attack. For all Rovers' hard work and graft the sides went in level at the break.

The start of the 2nd half started with Rovers again on the front foot. Robbie Mearns thought he had given Rovers the lead only to see his effort was well saved and from Evan Conyard’s resulting corner Man of the Match Shane Devlin rose highest to score a brilliant header to give Rovers a well deserved 1 nil lead.

Arklow were given a lifeline when awarded a penalty late on but their captain put it over the bar. Rovers held on for an important 3 points a good win on the road. Every player on the field including subs really stood up to the test and could have been Man of the Match but Shane Devlin was absolutely immense snuffing out any threats, winning every header and driving rovers forward.

Team; Jack Neville, Cormac Waldron, Alex Sinnot, Chris Muies, Ben Doyle, James Fagan, Tomas Kennedy, Shane Devlin, Evan Conyard, Nathan O Sullivan, Robbie Mearns. Subs Anton Clancy for Waldron, Eoin McAuley for Doyle
