Our U11 Blue squad made the trip down to Arklow Town this Sunday morning. Recognising that recent encounters, particularly against this opposition, hadn't gone our way, the team arrived determined to rewrite the script—and they absolutely delivered.
While Arklow Town ultimately claimed a 2-1 victory, the U11 Blues can hold their heads high. The sheer determination and team effort on display was magnificent, marking a clear and welcome return of the team's fighting pride.
The first half was an exciting, end-to-end battle. Despite continued pressure from Arklow, our defensive unit and commitment were outstanding, with every player digging deep to keep the score level at the break.
Rovers started the second half with renewed vigour, and the reward was instantaneous. We took the lead with a fantastic solo goal from Arthur, who picked up the ball on the right, cut inside past several players, and unleashed a powerful shot from 20 yards out to find the back of the net.
Credit must go to Arklow Town for their response; they maintained their pressure and quickly found an equaliser. We battled on, creating some lovely lay-offs and incisive passes, but couldn't find the breakthrough. In the closing stages, Arklow went ahead with a well-taken goal, sealing the 2-1 result.
The true highlight of the day was the character shown in goal. A massive shout-out to Dom, who bravely stepped up from the U10s to cover in goals while our usual keeper, Cillian, recovers from a broken arm. Dom was excellent, pulling off numerous first-class saves and performing brilliantly under pressure.
Well done to all the U11 Blue lads on rediscovering their pride and playing with such heart. Thank you to Arklow Town for a great game and for hosting us.
