Our 14B side advanced to the Division 1 Cup Semi-Finals with an impressive 5-1 win over our own 14C team in an all-club quarter-final clash.
In an early kick-off, it was the 14C team who struck first, absorbing early pressure before launching a swift counterattack. Locky Matthews broke down the 14B right and rifled a superb shot into the top far corner to give the C team a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.
The B team responded well and drew level before halftime with a smartly worked corner routine. Cian Foley slipped past the defence and delivered a sharp ball to the near post, where Luke Mulhall was on hand to turn it home. 1-1 at the break.
The second half, however, belonged to Casey Brennan. Just two minutes after the restart, he put the B team ahead with a superb 20-yard strike that beat the keeper. Brennan wasn’t finished—he added further goals in the 43rd, 51st, and 53rd minutes to complete a stunning four-goal performance and seal a convincing win.
It was a highly competitive match, and great credit goes to both teams for a spirited and committed display. We wish the C squad the very best of luck in the upcoming Shield competition.
But it’s the B team who march on to the Semi-Finals—with man of the match honours going to the four goal hero - Casey Brennan
