Wicklow Rovers U14C hosted Ashford Rovers at Rocky Road this morning, with perfect conditions greeting the two teams. Ashford ultimately emerged victorious, winning 7-1, but Wicklow Rovers made them work hard for their win.

Ashford struck early, scoring on 4 minutes and doubling their lead 10 minutes later. Despite dominating possession, Wicklow's defense, marshaled by Jamie McGowan, kept Ashford at bay, and the score remained 2-0 at halftime.

Wicklow Rovers pushed for an early goal in the second half and were rewarded on 40 minutes when Hugo Bradshaw scored, despite the Ashford keeper's best efforts. However, Wicklow's energy levels began to wane, and Ashford's Rex Verveen took control of the game.

A defensive lapse led to Ashford's third goal, followed quickly by their fourth. Wicklow Rovers had a chance to respond but were unable to capitalize. Ashford added three more goals, which Wicklow's players will be disappointed with.

While it wasn't Wicklow Rovers' day, Ashford's superior class and strength ultimately told. Thanks to Ashford for a game played in a good spirit.
