Our U12 C team hosted Ashford at Whitegates yesterday evening in what proved to be an exciting and very even contest.
Spurred on by a loud home crowd, Rovers started the better, displaying some good play through the midfield duo of Jack Dowling and Jake Flynn. They were backed up by a strong defense of Logan Byrne, Sophie Byrne, and Seb Carr. Rovers pressed for a goal through the hard-working wide players, Alex Mullen and Lucas Harckett, but couldn't break the deadlock. Ashford gradually grew into the game and started to cause Rovers problems just before the half ended.
Rovers came out strong in the second half, but a dogged Ashford side started to get on top. Their perseverance paid off midway through the half when they opened the scoring. Disaster struck again for Rovers a few minutes later when the Ashford winger skipped inside his marker and unleashed a spectacular strike into the top corner to take a 2-0 lead and seal the win.
This Rovers team can hold their heads high, as they showed some great attitude and promise.
Thanks to Ashford for a highly competitive match..
