Our Senior Men’s team hosted Arklow United at Whitegates today for their final league game of the season, and what a game it was! Rovers emerged victorious with a fantastic 3-2 win after a nail-biting comeback.
Rovers got off to a flying start! Just five minutes in, Cesar O’Sullivan unleashed a spectacular shot from the right wing. The ball soared over the keeper and nestled into the top corner of the net! Shortly after, Arklow United were awarded a penalty, but Rovers' keeper, Shay Kearney, kept them out!
The excitement continued as Arklow United responded with a spectacular effort of their own. Their striker’s shot, taking a wicked deflection, beat Shay Kearney to level the score. Then, with just ten minutes left in the first half, Arklow took the lead, scoring directly from a well-placed free kick. Arklow went into the break with a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, Rovers upped the pressure, launching a determined attack. Dillon Moriarty proved to be the hero, scoring two brilliant goals that secured the three points and propelled Rovers into the top 4!
It was a thrilling final display, with excellent performances across the pitch. Special mentions go to Rory Dowling, Shane Devlin, and Alan Power. Rovers now look forward to a home quarter-final in the Charlie Byrne Cup against Coolboy in the coming weeks.
