The U10 Yellows played out a captivating game against Rathnew this morning, providing plenty of excitement for the spectators.
Rovers took an early lead in spectacular fashion when a long kick from goalkeeper Tom Collins took an unexpected bounce, looping over the Rathnew goalie. Rathnew responded, equalizing just before halftime. Domenico Morelli then showed great composure to sneak into the Rathnew box and slot the ball into the net, giving Rovers the lead again at the break.
Rathnew came out strong in the second half, putting Rovers under pressure. Rovers then equalized with a well-executed move: a perfectly weighted through ball allowed the two strikers to run onto it, with Nathan Gill setting up Daniel Collins to fire the ball home.
The game remained tense and end-to-end. Rovers pushed hard for a decisive goal, with Micheal Brock almost scoring a brilliant solo effort, flicking the ball through two Rathnew players before unleashing a shot that went just over the bar.
It was a game of great effort from Rovers, who unfortunately lost Sam Bewley early on due to injury. Well done to all the lads, who gave everything they had in a match that could have gone either way.
