Our U14A's renewed rivalries with local neighbours Rathnew this afternoon in Shamrock Park. This proved to be another tough encounter for both sides with neither team giving up much in the way of goal scoring opportunities.
Rathnew did manage to break the deadlock mid way through the first half when an excellently delivered corner found their front man with a clear strike on target and he slotted home.
1-0 down at half time but Rovers heads never dropped and created the better chances in the second half. Mikie O'Neill broke through the resilient back four only to be thwarted by the keeper. The Rathnew keeper was again on hand to deny Alex Philippon's excellent left foot strike and force his effort onto the crossbar.
It was looking like all three points were staying at Shamrock Park until Will Carey's header from an AJ Long free kick, forced another terrific save only for Daniel Clarke to react quickest and equalize for Rovers with only two minutes left on the clock. 1-1 it finished and we thank Rathnew for a great battle.
