U13 As kicked off their season opener against Rathnew with an exciting draw.
Both squads were evenly matched throughout the 60 minutes. Jaime Noctor broke the deadlock after 10 minutes to set up his account for the season. A beautifully weighted ball from midfield put an electric Noctor through on goal, placing the ball in the back of the net from just inside the box.
Noctor was on target again five minutes later, only to be parried away by the Rathnew keeper, who was set to have a busy first 30 minutes between the sticks. Ben Murphy was next on target. A ball from McGowan in midfield, breaching Rathnew’s offside trap again, putting Murphy clear on goal only to be stopped by the keeper from 10 yards out.
Murphy had an outstanding game on the wing, creating problems for the Rathnew defence from the word go. Rathnew pulled a goal back five minutes from the end of the first half, capitalising on a sustained attack and fumbled Rovers clearance.
The second half proved fruitless for both sides, however it proved to be a battle of wills and fitness with end to end action for the full 30 minutes. Rovers A squad debutants Charlie O’Neil, Nathan Harris and Bogdan Vovk nailed it today, solid throughout and cementing their positions in the team.
Hunter Hennessey had another exceptional game between the posts, already putting his hand up for season MVP!!! Special mention for Kai and Hugo who both came to support the team today.
