Our U14A's kicked off their seqson in a humdinger of a game against Aughrim Rangers at Whitegates this afternoon. Rovers started well and took a second minute lead when AJ Long picked out James Carroll who went on an excellent solo run and found the back of the net.
Three minutes later Simon Lynch found Eoghan Quinn raiding down the right to put Rovers two up. Long made it 3-0 in the 18th minute after latching onto a fine through ball from Jack Collins. Aughrim got their first straight from the restart but Rovers regained their 3 goal cushion just before the break when Mikie O'Neill found the net in the 34th minute.
Aughrim started the second half with their second goal within minutes and really started to impose themselves in the game. Daniel Clarke eased Rovers fears when he netted Rovers fifth from a well placed Alex Philippon corner kick. But Aughrim are a dogged outfit and were rewarded with a third goal in the dying minutes in this high scoring encounter.
Credit goes to both teams for a fine display of football that was played in the right spirit and we look forward to our next encounter.
