Everyone at Wicklow Rovers AFC were very saddened to hear of the sad passing of Teddy Dunne. Teddy was a big part of our club and he was one of our founder members that sat around that table way back in 1975 over a few pints and decided to form Wicklow Rovers AFC.
The first set of jerseys were bought from the winnings on a horse and the club has gone from strength to strength ever since. Teddy was a major driving force behind the club, he donned the green jersey for many a year tormenting defences near and far.
Teddy was also a dedicated committee member serving on the committee for years. He also managed and coached at junior and senior levels. One of his many attributes in management was that he wanted his players to play at the highest level possible, and if you were good enough, he encouraged you to make that step up, supporting you all the way.
When Wicklow Rovers were mentioned, Teddy would always come into the conversation and always in a positive manner. He loved the club and the club loved him, he loved the banter that went with it as well and would always join in having the banter with the many people he became friends with over his football career.
Teddy was a pure gentleman, brilliant footballer, and a committed clubman. His legacy will live on in the club, without him and his group of friends way back in 1975 our club wouldn't exist.
It's a testament to Teddy that the Dunne family have long been associated with our club with his son Edward playing for the club and his nephew Johnny highly involved in the club today. Thank you for everything you done for our great club Teddy, you will be sadly missed.
