Our U16A team kicked off their season with a fantastic 4-2 victory away to Shillelagh today. Despite having only 11 players, including 3 from the U15 squad, the lads put in a brilliant performance to secure the win.
Shillelagh opened the scoring with a long-range strike, but Rovers responded quickly with a lovely effort from U15 player Sam Czwalina, who found the net from outside the box.
In the second half, Wicklow Rovers stepped up the pressure. Wolsey Sloan Kelly was quick to react and convert a long cross from U15 player David McCormack, giving Rovers the lead. Wolsey then turned provider, setting up Giorgio Morgillo-Fidyk for a well-taken third goal. Giorgio returned the favor, assisting Wolsey for his second of the game and Rovers' fourth.
Shillelagh managed to pull a goal back in the dying minutes, but Rovers held on for a deserved victory.
It was a great start to the season for this young team, showing resilience and determination despite limited numbers. A big thank you to Shillelagh for the hospitality and a competitive match!
