Our WDFL C team took on league leaders Arklow Town at Whitegates on Sunday. The lads had returned to 2025 with 2 defeats and needed a good result to climb back up the table.
Rovers started the game on the front foot and on the 20 minute mark, Alfie Heather broke through and his effort was put away by Cesar Sullivan to give Rovers the lead. On half hour mark Arklow Town got their equaliser with a short corner , their number 9 curling one into the top corner.
Second half was more of the same with Rovers putting it up to the league leaders and after 60 mins Alfie Heather was fouled in the box and Rovers were awarded a penalty. Gary O'Connor put away the penalty to regain the lead. Arklow got on top as the Rovers tired but some resolute defending was shown on the day and in the 90th minute Rovers got their 3rd , Jack Geraghty tapping in at the back post.
