Our U13's made the short trip out to near neighbours Rathnew this afternoon to take them on in the  Group C Shield competition.

These two teams always provide great entertainment when they lock horns and today was no different.

Rovers started well and took the lead in the 18th minute when Mikie O'Neill found Daniel Clarke inside the box for Clarke to fire home. The lead was doubled four minutes later when O'Neill bolted  down the right, squared the ball into the box where Clarke dummied to allow the on rushing AJ Long slot home.

Rathnew started to push forward but were finding it hard to breach the Rovers rear guard of Eoghan Daye, Jack Collins, James Carroll,  Finn Murphy and keeper Ben Morrissey.

Rathnew started the second half the better but the efforts of Rovers midfield trio of Simon Lynch, Will Carey and Cian Foley ensured that any danger was being sniffed out before Rathnew could build any momentum.

Rovers pressed on for the third and it came 15 minutes from time when Clarke rescued a ball that looked destined to find the end line. He drove past one defender into the box and found O'Neill 10 yards out, who duly hammered the ball home.

The introduction of Kyrylo Geleveria and Alex Philippon kept the momentum high for Rovers as Rathnew sought to fight their way back into the game.

But 3-0 it finished to the away side and a very good result for our boys in green. Huge thanks to Rathnew for their hospitality and a brilliantly contested match.
