Our U13's welcomed Arklow Town's U14's to the Whitegates this morning in Group C of the Shield Competition. Rovers got off to a flyer when Mikie O'Neill dispatched Will Carey's through ball in the 4th minute.
AJ Long doubled the lead five minutes later with a well struck effort from the edge of the box and O'Neill made it 3-0 in the 11th minute to firmly put Rovers in control. Arklow heads didn't drop and the game leveled itself out for the remainder of the first half.
Simon Lynch made it 4-0 within minutes of the restart to put a significant gap been the sides but Arklow kept going and were rewarded with a spot kick in the 53rd minute when their left winger was fouled inside the box. Rovers keeper Ben Morrissey saved the penalty but the Arklow winger was the quickest to react and slot home from 6 yards out.
Both Rovers and Town could have added to their tallies late on but neither side could find the net as the game played out with a 4-1 win to the home side.
Thanks to Arklow Town for the match and the very best of luck for the remainder of the season.
