U11s Green team played out a thrilling quarter finals match against Shillelagh in the Jimmy Hackett Shield on the Rocky Road this morning.
Both teams started brightly playing some great passing football and both teams working hard out of possession. The dead lock was broken midway through the half when Mark Yukhymenko drove at the right back and unleashed a fierce shot that the keeper could only parry to Ryan Forde who had continued his run into the box to slot the ball into the bottom corner.
Shillelagh had a penalty shout just before half time but was waved away by the referee. The second half started with Rovers looking to push on for that all important second goal. We were rewarded when some neat skill from Harry Philippon put him clean through one on one with the keeper. For the second week running unselfishly squared the ball to Mark Yukhymenko to tap into an empty net and secure the win for rovers
It was a fantastic team performance from the Green team, with every player contributing to a well-deserved victory. Their hard work, determination, and excellent teamwork were evident throughout the match. A big thank you to Shillelagh for a great game played in a fantastic spirit, and congratulations to our U11 Green team on reaching the semi-finals of the Jimmy Hackett Shield!
