Our U11 Green team secured their place in the next round of the SFAI National Trophy with a hard-fought 2-1 victory away to Tullamore Town FC today.
Rovers started strongly, pressing high and forcing a mistake from the Tullamore defense in the 6th minute. Jamie O'Malley capitalized on the error, dispossessing a defender and slotting the ball home for the opening goal. Tullamore equalized from a corner in the 12th minute.
Rovers regained the lead in the 20th minute through a well-worked team goal. Neat interplay between Jamie O'Malley and Harry Philippon created a one-on-one opportunity for Philippon, who unselfishly squared the ball for Mark Yukhymenko to tap into an empty net.
The second half was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating chances. However, with minutes remaining, Tullamore almost found an equalizer. Their attacker broke through the Rovers' defense, but Larry Brophy in the Rovers' goal produced a fantastic save to preserve the victory and send the U11 Green team into the next round.
