In an entertaining game, our U13Bs came out on the wrong side of a 3-2 defeat to Ashford. A defensive error gave Ashford the lead when a clearance fell to the feet of Ashford playmaker Rex Verveen, who finished well to make it 1-0. Rovers got back into the game before the break with some good work down the right, as a great ball into the box was turned into the goal by an Ashford defender for an own goal. 1-1 at half-time.
Rovers started the second half strongly but failed to take their chances and were punished, as they fell behind again on 42 minutes. Despite this, Rovers never let their heads drop, and on 45 minutes, Charlie Lawlor headed home after a frantic scramble in the box to level the game again.
Rovers continued to press but couldn't convert their chances and were made to pay when Verveen again found space and scored Ashford's winner from 20 yards out late on. Rovers had no further clear opportunities as Ashford managed the game well to see out the 3-2 win.
Thank you to Ashford for a competitive game, and best of luck in the remainder of the Shield.
